Today , we visited the Minamata Disease Museum which tells us about the Minamata disease. I learned about the importance of social responsibility. The thought makes me shudder as I realize that one act of social irresponsibility caused many lives to be lost dreams and destroyed as the Minamata disease permanently disfigured many people as many drank from the toxic contaminated waters in the Minamata bay. This particular trip has made me understand the phase of “what goes around comes around.” As when you harm Mother Nature, Mother Nature will find a way to get back to you soon now or later.

The Minamata disease monument reminds us to be socially responsible and not be the cause of others sufferings just because there is a easier way of doing things.

Next, we proceeded to the Minamata Disease Information Centre where we learned about the symptoms of the Minamata disease. I think why the school wanted to bring us there was to experience the pain that the Minamata survivors suffered from the Minamata disease and it affected their lives. The school also wanted us to know the long lasting effects of the Minamata disease and to sympathize with the Minamata disease survivors.

Next we proceeded to Eco Net where we learned about soap making. I think the reason why the school wanted to bring us there was because they wanted us to learn not to be so wasteful and that “trash” can be made into a brand new product called soap.
