Today was mainly on information about the Minamata disease. The disease was officially recognised in 1956 and the source of the problem was found to be Chisso, a leading chemical company discharging contaminated water into the sea. It contained a high amount of methyl mercury and the waste water killed many marine life. As people consumed these marine creatures, they took in the high amount of methyl mercury and eventually damaged their own nervous system leading to many physical disorders. We went to a memorial at Eco-Park, dedicated to all the people who died from that disaster and went to a museum to learn more about the tragedy. Lastly, we went to Eco-Net, a factory that uses used cooking oil to create soap. I learnt many things today that could be of value in life such as cherishing life and things precious in life, like family and loved ones.
